ANOTHER GEM FROM THE AJAX ACADEMY
Ajax academy has always been known for the impressive array of talents that it keeps churning out year after year. This time there’s a new name on the lips of those at the Netherland club, and his name is Youri Reeger. Youri Reeger is the latest breakthrough out of the famed academy, and he has been primed for big things at the club.
Reeger may just be 18 years old, but he’s already the captain of Dutch Football Association team Jong Ajax. He has made over 60 appearances for the club, as he tries to fight his way into reckoning at Ajax FC. He’s strong, technical, a natural leader, and his footballing brain is almost unrivaled at his age grade.
Although a midfielder, by trade Reeger has regularly slotted in at right-back and has also performed admirably in that position. When former Ajax U-19 coach Heitinga needed a right-sided forward in a UEFA Youth League game against Valencia, Reeger was called up despite being just 16 then. He went on to score a hat trick as the Ajax side won 5*3 against the Spanish side. This earned him in the Netherlands U17 squad for the 2019 World cup in Brazil as the youngest player called up.
He has already made a first-team debut in a cup tie against Barendrecht and has always been tipped for great things ever since he was a kid. He joined the Ado Den Haag’s youth team at the age of 12 after he was rejected by Ajax but was later snapped by the club after impressing there. He has since developed into a refined player that Ajax FC would hope to count on for years to come.
For now, Ajax FC would hope that he continues his meteoric rise to the top wherever he decides to play on the pitch. His five goals, and nine assists this season for Jong Ajax shows that it is just a matter of time.
